Solar Grazing

Farming sunshine

In 2019, we partnered with farmland owners in Tiverton, RI who lease part of their property to solar energy producer Kearsarge Energy. The landowners felt it was very important to keep their farmland in food production as well as solar energy production, so they reached out to BeeBaa Farm and together we all entered the burgeoning field of “Agrivoltaics”. After our first year, the benefits to the sheep as well as the land are very clear: our ewes have a large, shady and safe place to fatten up all summer, and the farmland beneath the panels thrives from the decrease in mechanical mowing equipment and complete lack of herbicides, replaced by gentle sheep hooves and fertile manure. Continuing to participate in Agrivoltaics is something that really excites us about farming today. BeeBaa Farm is a member of the American Solar Grazing Association (ASGA) and is fully insured to graze our flock off-farm. Contact Adam for information on our solar grazing program.
